I lack the patience required to do wildlife photography, but every summer we went "up north," if I had access to a boat I'd spend most of an early morning chasing the Minnesota State Bird. They were charmingly permissive about me tailing them. They'd simply be doing what they always do--going under for awhile, then coming back up a few furlongs away, sort of hide-and-seek. These all come from the summer of 2011, too many years ago.
I hunted them really, chasing them around the lakefront, sometimes getting close and personal while they flirted with me, even with a young'in just behind.
Of course, when you're out there early morning, you never know who else might show up.
And then the lake itself could show off in ways a flat-lander like myself couldn't help but love.
It's been too many years. . .

Thank you for the wonderful loon pictures. More great Schaap photography!
As a Californian, I have collected loons since I heard my first haunting loon call in the northern Minnesota woods in 1981.
You would be surprised how many different loon items one can own!
