Morning Thanks

Garrison Keillor once said we'd all be better off if we all started the day by giving thanks for just one thing. I'll try.

Reflections on Alton Pond--2007

For some reason I remember really liking this picture. Away across the Alton pond, there's a dad and his son fishing. From the looks of things, whatever they might pull out of all that murky mess wouldn't be worth keeping, but no matter--Dad took the kid fishing and, if nothing else, they're having a whale of a time.

The cottonwood all around the were bestowing their fuzz just then, but there were spaces on the water where the surface wasn't so messy. In fact, some of the most fun shots that morning came in reflection.

In 2007, I was having a great time, like that father/son combo, looking where I could to see what I could see. Five years later, oddly enough, Barbara and I would live there, just across 10, call it home, in fact.

But all of these come from some time before we'd become native. It's early in the morning, so take this joke with some grace: these are my reflections, this early morning in June, 2025, 18 years later. I was learning to see.

Thanks for looking.
