It was the summer of 2006 when I first fell in love with the Missouri River, earlier, probably, when I was first blind enough to keep the attraction to a minimum. The idea of this trip was to take people interested in the Great Plains and give them a full dose of its beauty--not its charm. The Great Plains aren't charming. Get caught in a storm--any season--and you'll know what I mean.
The Great Plains are, quite simply, awesome for their nothingness. Taking pictures of the Great Plains is like shooting at nothing at all, just hoping for the best.
These pictures, from what we called "The Great Plains Experience," were the first reels of places I've been to since with regularity but not enough frequency. Did I get 'em in the camera? Never. I'm still trying.
That's the mighty Missouri at its great bend, an amazing trick the Lord of Heaven and Earth unfurled. Just awesome.
